With the economy slowly recovering from a devastating recession and many areas still suffering from the money crunch it only makes sense that these shows have become so popular. A large part of the population has learned to scrimp on money every way they can. These shows are relatable. We watch people go into a pawn shop to sell something they hope is worth money. We hope, for them, that what they’re selling is worth a lot because it gives us hope that the painting we got from grandma’s house that’s just sitting in the garage is worth enough to help us get over our money troubles. At the same time when we watch the guys bidding on a storage television unit we’re hoping as much as they are that they find the million dollar jackpot because that means we have just as good of a chance if we were to go bid on a storage unit.
